B.K. School of Business Management

The B. K. School of Business Management is one of the oldest and well-known B-schools in the state of Gujarat. It is a postgraduate department of Gujarat University situated in front of K.S. School of Business Management, Gujarat University Campus, Ahmedabad, a state run university.

The school was started in 1976, by a donation from Dr. Biharilal Kanaiyalal, himself a great economist, philanthropist and industrialist. To cater for the needs of society and corporate, IIM, Ahmedabad was not capable to serve local students and those who could not afford higher fees. The school offers two-year full time and three-year part time MBA programs for working executives. The school is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education and part of B+ National Assessment and Accreditation Council accreditation, both are union government agencies. The school receives a grant from the University Grants Commission (UGC), and run Industry Institute Partnership cell under the UGC umbrella.

It is one of the lowest fee (negligible) charging institute. It is topped in all state MBA institutes in terms of GCET admissions and placements. The school started Port Management program to cater needs of expanding international business and privatisation of ports in Gujarat.

The school is one of the Teaching Department of Government run Gujarat University, and offers two year full-time MBA program and three year MBA part-time program (i.e. evening program for working executives) and offer specialization in Finance, Marketing and Human Resources. The school also offer Post Graduate Diploma program in Port Management and Diplomas in Finance, HR, and Marketing & Advertisement. The school has tradition to update course as per demand of the industry.[1]

The objectives of the school are to build MANAGERS. To equip the students with the latest management concepts and thoughts; to inculcate a “hands-on” approach towards management; to act as an interface between academia and industry.

Rankings

Currently it is no.1 MBA institute of Gujarat. The school was ranked 28th among all B-School while it was third in Asia for part time MBA. It was also ranked as 6th under university MBA program in India.[2][3]

Admission process

The school selects the students through the Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET), which is a written test, which measures candidates’ quantitative, verbal and analytical skills. The school has consistently attracted the top 90 students out of a pool of more than 20,000 students appearing for GCET. The test is conducted by State Government for all B-school in Gujarat. There are total 30 seats in PGDPM Programme, 20 seats are reserved for B.E/B.Sc candidates whereas 10 seats are reserved for B.Com/BBA Students.[4]

Placements

The school nearly achieves 100% placement records. Port Management Programme received excellent placements in its first year. Companies like IL&FS, Essar, Coastal Energen, Mudra Port and SEZ are named a few.

BK Weekly

This is an unofficial information service of the B.K. School of Business Management, and was started on 20th Jan 2010. The main aim of this initiative is to promote the students of B.K. to express their ideas freely. The initiative released its vol-3 on 7th feb.: this edition was the most successful.great.
